چکیده

T HE aim of this discussion is to summarize and evaluate evidence for and against the concept that the fat content of the average present-day North American or north European diet is a significant factor in the genesis of cerebral, myocardial, renal, or peripheral atherosclerosis. To date there is no incontrovertible evidence for such a relationship; nevertheless, a strong case is developing to suggest that the nutritional status of an individual is an important environmental factor in the etiology of this disorder. The total fat and the type of fat in the diet are among the nutritional factors particularly involved.

Effect of resistance exercise training on biochemical markers and anthropometric characteristics involved in atherosclerosis in obese women

Introduction: Obese individuals have elevated levels of inflammatory and cell adhesion molecules that can critically induce the occurrence of atherosclerosis. Aerobic exercise training reduces biochemical markers and anthropometric characteristics involved in atherosclerosis. However, little is known about the effect of resistance exercise training on these biomarkers. This study aimed to inves...

Aerobic exercise training reduces inflammatory markers involved in atherosclerosis

Introduction: Adipose tissue and inflammatory factors play important role in occurrence of atherosclerosis in overweight women. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of 8 weeks of aerobic exercise training on risk factors involved in atherosclerosis in overweight women. Materials and methods: For this, fourteen overweight women (mean ± standard deviation: body mass index 28....

مقایسه اثر رژیم غذایی دارای روغن ماهی با رژیم غذایی دارای الگوی چربی مصرفی ایرانی و رژیم استاندارد بر ایجاد آترواسکلروز آئورت در موش صحرایی

Background and Objectives: There are conflicting data on the effects of different types of fat on aortic atherosclerosis. This study used Wister rats to compare the atherogenic effects of a standard diet with a diet containing fish oil and another diet containing mixed oils (typical of the current consumption pattern in Iran). Methods: Thirty female Wistar rats were randomly assigned to three ...

Effect of interval and continuous training exercises after high-fat diet on liver X receptor alpha gene expression

Background: A group of adenosine triphosphate binding cassette transporter (ABCs) including ABCA1, ABCG1, ABCG4, ABCG5 and, ABCG8 induce cholesterol efflux from the cell and thereby are target genes in prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis. ABCA1, ABCG5 and, ABCG8 genes are activated by liver X receptor (LXR) and liver receptor homolog-1 (LRH-1) that play essential roles in metabolic proc...

Hepatic fat content is a determinant of metabolic phenotypes and increased carotid intima-media thickness in obese adults.

Individuals with metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) are at relatively low risk for the development of metabolic abnormalities and subclinical atherosclerosis. This study aims to examine whether hepatic fat accumulation determines metabolic phenotype of obesity and associated with subclinical atherosclerosis. A total of 485 obese adults (aged 40-65 years) who received magnetic resonance spectro...
